5 steps to moving your shop to a new business location

By Lizzie Weakley

So, you’ve outgrown your current shop location and it’s time to move to a new one. Congratulations! This is a great accomplishment for any business. But, as you probably know, moving an entire business is no small feat. There are a lot of details to consider and things that need to be done in order to insure a smooth transition. This helpful blog post will be outlining the five key steps you need to take when moving your shop to a new location.

Do your research

The first step is to do your research and find the perfect new location for your shop. You’ll want to consider things like foot traffic, parking, public transportation, and visibility when choosing your new location. Once you’ve found the perfect spot, it’s time to start thinking about the details of the move.

Make a plan

Now it’s time to make a plan. This may seem like a daunting task, but if you take it one step at a time, it will be much easier than you think. Start by making a list of all the things that need to be done for the move to be successful. Then, create a timeline and assign tasks to specific team members. Be sure to include plenty of padding in your timeline to account for any potential delays that may pop up along the way. Additionally, choose moving services that specialize in commercial moving.

Notify your customers

Once you have everything planned out, it’s time to let your customers know about the move. The last thing you want is for them to show up at your old location only to find that you’ve moved without telling them! Send out an email blast or post on social media with all the details about your move including the date, new address, and any special promotions or deals you may be offering at your new location.

Pack everything up

Now it’s time to start packing everything up! This is arguably the most labor-intensive part of the whole process. Be sure to label everything clearly so you know where everything goes when you get to your new location. If possible, try to pack everything up in such a way that it can be easily unloaded and set up at your new shop.

Move in and set up

The big day has finally arrived! It’s time to move into your new shop location and get everything set up just the way you want it. If possible, try to have someone on hand who knows the layout of your old shop so they can help direct traffic flow in your new space. Then, once everything is unpacked and set up, open those doors and get ready for business!

Moving your shop to a new location can be a daunting task but if you follow these simple steps, it will be much easier than you think! Just remember to do your research, make a plan, notify your customers, pack everything up carefully, and then open up those doors and get ready for business!
