6 ways aspiring entrepreneurs can speed their way to success

By Henry Brown

When you’re starting a new small business, it’s natural to want to be successful in the shortest time possible. Unfortunately, there is no secret to overnight success and, in fact, the majority of new companies don’t become successful in a hurry. However, there are ways to speed up the timeline and the best of the best is learning from those that have already blown their goals wide open. Yup, we’re talking about having a mentor.

Alas, not everyone is able to follow the lead of one person with a lifetime of success behind them. This post is for those people. It’s for those that haven’t got a business guru over their shoulder. It’s for those aspiring entrepreneurs who are in need of some top tips to help them get started on the right path.

– Embrace the challenge

Heard of Richard Branson? Yeah. That’s the one. The rich Virgin. Well, he reports that his motivation comes from constantly challenging himself. He gets motivated by the opportunity to learn… constantly. He treats business – and life – like one long university semester, and it paid off big time.

Starting a business, running a business, making that business successful takes a serious dollop of time and, given life is too short, it begs the question, “why do anything you don’t care about?” The only way you will be truly satisfied in life is if you do something you really believe in, care about or you’re passionate for.

– Find good people

There are so many ways you can translate this. You could surround yourself with the kind of people you want to be more like. You could find the consultants who will strengthen your weaknesses, whether that be something specific like strategic IT consulting or something generic like leadership consulting. It could mean going into business with the right people, those that complement and push each other.

– Self-belief is best

Nothing is going to fuel your success more than self-believing. It’s that notion of looking in the mirror and deciding what you think you can or think you can’t do because, either way, you’ll be right. What that means is, if you believe you can be a success, you’ll find a way to overcome every obstacle in your way. If you don’t believe in yourself, well, you’ll become an excuse factory.

It’s hard. Of course it’s hard. These are your fears. However, fear is nothing but a projection in your mind, and fearlessness is nothing but a muscle, that you should exercise as much as possible. If you do, you’ll find you’re a million times more equipped to overcome the fears that are preventing you from becoming a success.

– Focus on your energy

Everyone focuses on the time they have. They believe this is the biggest limitation they face. But this is a misunderstanding. The truth is you need to manage your energy better. Not your time. This is because your energy levels will dictate what can be achieved in the time you have.
