Make your office greener this summer

By Henry Brown

Nowadays people are so much more invested in the environment and how we can maintain it. As a working professional, you want to make your office space greener and more environmentally conscious to help save the planet and do your bit for the cause.

Today we are going to take a look at some of the upgrades you can to do your office to help keep it greener today.

Recycle

It is surprising and alarming how many offices still only have one general waste bin for their rubbish. It is important to have a bin for each kind of waste and this way your rubbish can be recycled which is better for the environment as a whole. Doing this will make a massive difference to your impact on the environment.

Install solar panels

One way you can make a positive change to your workplace as well as make yourself some money is to install solar panels at work. Solar panels can be a useful way to create energy without the need of fossil fuels and it is much better for the environment. You can also get a grant from the government for using solar panels to power your building so this is a good bonus!

Invest in ventilation

Ventilation is so important in an office as there are many people working in the same space sharing the same air. Make sure that you invest in good ventilation throughout the office and this will likely negate the need for you to have the air conditioning unit constantly on throughout the day. Saving energy is the name of the game and this will make life so much easier for you.

Insulate everywhere

It is crucial that wherever your workplace is based that you consider insulating the whole building. Whether you are in a shop setting with Franchise Direct; at home in your own office; or in a large commercial building – insulation is key. Keeping heat in will mean you don’t have to have the heating running and this will save you a lot of money in the long term.

Try LED lights

If you have old lighting fittings throughout your office space, it is highly likely that they are simply not energy efficient. Make sure that you consider trying LED lights for your building and this will allow you to save energy as well as gain a better quality of light through the office. No more of those headache inducing fluorescent lights!

Use a motion sensor

One helpful way to save energy and the environment when in the office is to have motion sensing lights fitted throughout the corridors as well as bathrooms and the kitchen. These areas won’t be constantly in use like the main office and as a result you can keep the lights off until someone walks into the space and sets of the sensor. This will save you a lot of energy throughout the year and will have a great impact on the environment and planet overall.
