All good things must come to an end, including this blog

Fourteen years ago this month, I published the first post on this blog. My goal for the blog was to offer information, resources, and advice that would help small business owners and solopreneurs do a better job of running their businesses.

With 20 years of self-employment under my belt and having worked with dozens of self-employed people who were either my clients or vendors I hired to help clients, I had learned a lot about what helps people succeed at self-employment and what perils and behaviors stood in the way of their success.  The blog was my way of giving back to the community that had helped me thrive.

Since that first post, at lot has happened:

-2,528 posts have been published on this blog.

-I wrote a book, The Self-Employment Survival Guide: Proven Strategies to Succeed as Your Own Boss, which was published by Rowman & Littlefield in 2018.

-I retired and no longer work with clients but continued the blog. As time went by, I wrote fewer posts myself, relying on guest bloggers from the U.S. and from places as far afield as Australia.

Now, as I near the age of 78, I have decided that 14 years is a good run, and it’s time to say goodbye. But before I go, I want to thank the many, many writers who have contributed to this blog. Special thanks go to Mark G. Auerbach and Michelle van Schouwen, who have contributed their marketing, public relations, and small business ownership expertise each month for many years. Also, thanks go to Laurie Breitner and Karen Utgoff, who contributed greatly in the early years of the blog. And also, thanks go to Justin Scheef, of Scheef.com, who has been my web guru since I moved to Durham, NC, in 2013. Justin has quickly unsnarled whatever tech curveballs have come my way as a blogger.

Finally, to both the faithful followers and the once-in-a-while visitors of this blog, I wish you well as you follow your self-employment dreams. As I’ve said many times, being my own boss was the happiest and most rewarding part of my career. I hope when your days of work are done, you can say the same. Good luck!

And thus ends blog post number 2,529.
